As poet and visual artist-cum-rapper Mykki Blanco, a.k.a. Michael Quattlebaum Jr., recently explained in a story titled "Rap's Last Taboo": It's called "glam hip-hop... I know the cross-dressing is what really piques people's interest because they're just like, 'a rapping drag queen?' "
Now take a look at the latest single and video for "Feeling Special, from Blanco's upcoming EP, Betty Rubble: The Initiation. Directed by Danny Sangra in coordination with District MTV, it's a wild ride. This is what Blanco has said about the EP:
"The Initiation EP is aptly titled as I feel the music on this release is my way of initiating listeners into the lyricism and storytelling, the hard hitting rhymes and tripped out cadences that have become the signatures of what make the Mykki Blanco sound. I know that I can be a chameleon but this EP peels back the layers of persona to reveal to you Mykki Blanco the rapper and nothing else. You can love it or hate it but this is HIP HOP."
