While crazed commenters and Change.org petitioners were rallying around Matt Bomer to play Christian Grey in Fifty Shades Of Grey film (and we're anticipating him with Mark Ruffalo in the Ryan Murphy-directed adaptation of The Normal Heart for HBO), it turns out that he was in talks to play a true Hollywood icon: Montgomery Clift. As Deadline reports, the biopic of the Hollywood star is set to be directed by Larry Moss with a script by Christopher Lovick and they are shooting for a 2014 start date. Why is this important for us all?
The chiseled leading man had a troubled career and life. In a piece on The Hairpin titled "The Long Suicide of Montgomery Clift," writer Anne Helen Petersen explains the troubled life he had, the many ups and downs in his career and personal life. She also touches on the fact that, although Clift was cast with sexy ladies in Westerns, he was having steamy off-screen love affairs with the dudes, such as John Ireland, who played Cherry Valance in Red River (watch the gay clip below):
Don't forget that he starred opposite Liz Taylor A Place in the Sun and they had a lifelong friendship. So the big question: Who is going to play Liz? You want to see how great they were together as BFFs?
