Tom Daley: 'It Really Was Love at First Sight'

The 19-year-old Olympic diver Tom Daley will appear on The Jonathan Ross Show, the UK equivalent of Jay Leno's The Tonight Show, this Saturday, Dec. 7, according to the Independent. But the news of the interview has already spread, and during the episode he reveals that he made the first move at a party with his "mystery" beau, rumored to be Hollywood screenwriter and gay activist Dustin Lance Black.

"I'd never felt like anything like it before. We were at a party and I hadn't even spoken to him all night. I didn't know what to do or if he was gay at first," he explained. "I typed 'call me' in his notes with a smiley face on this phone, and the next day he texted. He makes me feel safe and happy, right now I couldn't be happier."

Although Daley still hasn't officially confirmed that it's 39-year-old Black, a 2013 Out100 honoree for his work in overturning Prop. 8 in California, Daley did discuss the fact that he feels completely in love:

"I'd never felt the feeling of love, it happened so quickly, I was completely overwhelmed by it to the point I can't get him out of my head all the time. I've never had it before where I love someone and they love me just as much."

It should also be noted that it's quite remarkable that a young man would be invited on a mainstream show such as this to discuss his relationship, the same way any starlet or any young celebrity would be prompted to flirt and reveal secrets of his or her romances for the admiring public. Daley, who has an even bigger fanbase in the UK, also credited his boyfriend with encouraging him to stick with diving after the inevitable 2012 Olympics slump.

"He saved me from not wanting to dive anymore," Daley said. "After the Olympics I was down in the dumps, as it's such a hard way to get back into everything, but he gave me the extra motivation and made me work harder and that is exactly what I need."

Queerty posted a photo of DLB with Tom Daley taken by a reader in Los Angeles back in October of this year. There's been speculation ever since.

It's the first time Daley has spoken about his relationship since he broke the news of his dating a guy in a YouTube post earlier this week. Since that time people have wondered if this means he's gay or bisexual. As he states in the interview on the show: 'Everything is all pretty new so I don't see any point in putting a label on it - gay, bi, straight, any of those kind of labels.
"All that I feel happy about at the moment is that I'm dating a guy and couldn't be happier, it shouldn't matter who I'm dating and I hope people can be happy for me."

DLB has played it coy so far, posting a message on Twitter that read: "Slept all day today after my trip to Russia. Did I miss anything?" No official comment yet from him on the subject, although people have been posting message of support and congratulations on his Facebook page and Twitter.
