The film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony Award winning play has been in production for the past year -- building anticipation and excitement as fans eagerly await to see Meryl Streep embody the witch on the big screen -- and new images finally show fans a glimpse of what they can expect this December.
Into the Woods follows well-known fairytale characters including Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Jack of beanstalk fame (Daniel Huttlestone), the Baker (James Corden), and his wife (Emily Blunt) as their lives intertwine because of an old curse placed on the Baker's family by a witch (Meryl Streep). The film also features a slew of other recognizable characters from childhood fables, including Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy -- above), Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), the Wolf (Johnny Depp), and Prince Charming (Chris Pine) all seen in the images below.
Jack (Huttlestone) and his mother (Tracy Ullman)
The Baker's Wife (Blunt) and the man himself (Corden)
Cinderella (Kendrick)
Prince Charming (Pine)
Cinderella's evil stepsisters (Lucy Punch, Tammy Blanchard) and her evil stepmother (Christine Baranski)
The Wolf (Depp)
The Baker with Red Riding Hood (Crawford)
And last but not least, the Witch (Streep) with the Baker
Though the film won't remain 100 percent true to the original play, these images show promise of what's to come when the film hits theaters this Christmas. (Check out more images courtesy of Disney here.)
