In his first major role since coming out last year, Prison Break star Wentworth Miller will play super villain Captain Cold (a.k.a. Leonard Snart) on CW's freshman series The Flash.
Freeze ray in hand, Miller will play one of Barry Allen's greatest foes in the fourth episode of the series. "He's just this guy who pulls jobs very carefully and certainly there's something in the city and he has to change his game up," DC Comics chief Geoff Johns tells EW. With The Flash fighting crime, Snart has to change his M.O. "[Snart] has to figure out how to deal with this new threat in Central City, to his way of life. It's just all about him evolving, and with that, guns aren't just going to do it, so he's gotta have something a little stronger."
Greg Berlanti, the show's creator and exec producer, says he's searching for opportunities to introduce LGBT comic book characters on the show. One major gay character on The Flash will be Pied Piper, DC's first openly gay villain, who will appear in the latter half of the season. First, David Singh, a recurring closeted crime lab director played by Patrick Sabongui, will appear. Berlanti says he doesn't feel restricted to maintain the same exact narrative, whether it's race, sexual orientation, or gender. "It's nice to figure out and find ways to update them so that they reflect the openness of our society today and be understanding of the equality that I think exists."

The Flash premiered last night to robust ratings, netting the best scores for a premiere on the network in five years. According to Variety, this all thanks to the young adult demographic.
