Actress Lily Tomlin was saluted last night at the annual Kennedy Center Honors gala in Washington. She was in good company this year, as Tom Hanks, Al Green, Sting, and ballerina Patricia McBride also received the award this year.
At the Stephen Colbert-hosted event, Jane Fonda was there to honor her 9 to 5 costar (the duo are working together again in an upcoming Netflix comedy) as were SNL MVP Kate McKinnon, Glee actress Jane Lynch, and Reba McEntire.
"I approached Lily and excitedly shared my vision and she immediately said, 'No,'" reminisced Fonda about making 9 to 5.
"Two years ago I joined the cast of Saturday Night Live and now here I am honoring my comedy hero," said McKinnon.
"From the first time I saw her on Laugh In, I said this is the person I want to be best friends with," said McEntire.
USA Today reports that Tomlin was thrilled to have met the president: "Obama was so witty and funny and charming and extremely warm," she said.
