Pee-Wee Herman has been making a comeback for several years now, at least since his 2010 Pee-Wee Herman Show on Broadway.
Now a long-reported, long-anticipated project with mega-producer Judd Apatow (Superbad, Pineapple Express) now has a home on Netflix, "a gazillion months ago," according to a source, reports The Wrap. It has been associated with Universal, then "no longer with Universal" according to a studio spokesperson.
Paul Reubens will star as Pee-Wee, and co-wrote the script with Paul Rust (Inglorious Basterds). The director and the plot are still top secret, but Vulture.com writes, "the movie's plot will see Herman on a road trip taking part in a 'gigantic adventure,' probably with Seth Rogen and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as his neurotic buddies who are scared of girls and don't want to deal with the realities of life."
While you wait watch the greatest holiday TV show of all time, Christmas at Pee-Wee's Playhouse, with special guests Oprah Winfrey, Charo, Dinah Shore, k.d. lang, (OMG are you seeing this amazing list?) Cher, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Whoopi Goldberg, Little Richard, Joan Rivers, and Grace Jones, on Netflix.
