Robbie Rogers ended this season with a big win, as his Los Angeles Galaxy beat the New England Revolution 2-1 and was awarded the coveted MLS Cup. This is the fifth time the L.A. Galaxy has won the cup.
"This MLS Cup is for so many people my teammates, family and friends. The fans obviously and for everyone that thought it would never be possible. Thank you #LAGalaxy," Rogers posted on his Facebook page.
"I'm such a different person," said Rogers to reporters. "I can't explain it. It's been a difficult, but amazing journey."
This is the second time that Rogers has helped a team win the Cup, his first win was back in 2008, when he was with his the Columbus Crew.
"I couldn't even enjoy it," said the 27-year-old defender of his first win. "I remember just being alright with it, and the emotion I had after the game [Sunday], I can't explain. It's been such a long journey and for it to end this way, just to share it with these guys on the field, has been amazing."
It's been a year-and-a-half since Rogers came out of retirement and became the first openly gay athlete in a major American sports league.
The Galaxy won in overtime when Robbie Keane scored a goal on the Revolution in the 111th minute.
This year, Rogers signed a multiyear contract extension with the Galaxy, who he's been with since May 2013.
