The World of Wonder initiative aims to give back to LGBTQ+ Nightlife
If Lady Gaga's massive concert wasn't enough for you, there's more where that came from. Now queer performers and notable allies are all signing on to appear at Stonewall Gives Back! A Live-Streaming Concert for the LGBTQ+ Nightlife Community.
Hosted by Tyler Oakley and Michelle Visage, the event is set to raise money for a series of $1,000 grants that industry professionals can apply for through Stonewall Gives Back. That organization, with a name inspired by the Stonewall Uprising, supports grassroots organizations and marginalized communities.
To entice fans to watch and give, World of Wonder and executive producer Erich Bergen, have pulled together a who's who of LGBTQ+ performers and allies. On the list: Alan Cumming, Allie X, Betty Who, Carlie Hanson, Darren Hayes, Dave Mizzoni, Greyson Chance, Issac Dunbar, John Cameron Mitchell, Kim Petras, Kristin Chenoweth, Leland, Lorna Luft, Matt Rogers, MUNA, Nina West, Our Lady J, Pabllo Vittar, Peppermint, Rufus Wainwright, Shoshana Bean, Todrick Hall, Troye Sivan, TUCKER, and VINCINT. Cyndi Lauper has also signed on board to give a special performance.
"I think this pandemic has made it even more clear just how vulnerable some of our communities actually are," Bergen said in a statement. "We are coming together to respond to this crisis in a collaborative way, through music, which is the great unifier."
The benefit is only the last of a number of initiatives World of Wonder has put in place since the onset of quarantine.
The festivities will stream live on World of Wonder's YouTube channel on Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. EST.
