Now that Pride Month is basically over, what other major gay event is there to look forward to this summer? Folsom Street Fair, of course!
The East Coast may have already gotten a taste of leather earlier this month with Folsom Street East, and while it definitely looked like New York City had a blast donning their harnesses, chaps, and pup masks, there's something to be said about how the long-running event celebrating all things kink, fetish, and sex-positivity has been a staple on the West Coast for years, proving San Francisco will always be the place to be!
"Folsom Street cultivates a safe, open, and inclusive environment for the kink, leather, and alternative sexuality communities while centering equity for BIPOC and LGBTQA2I+ people," the org's mission statement reads. "We are rooted historically in the fight against gentrification and displacement here in San Francisco, on unceded Ohlone land, and worldwide. We unite, strengthen, and affirm the community through support, resources, education, advocacy, visibility, and celebration. We are dedicated to sexual liberation and the human right to pleasure as a crucial part of the liberation movement."
This year's Folsom Street Fair is set to take place on Sunday, September 29, celebrating their 41st anniversary in 2024! While we wait patiently for this year's 2024 fun, we thought it would be a good idea to take a look back at Folsoms past, just to give everyone a little tease of what to expect! Woof!
