The HRC will present her with the Ally for Equality Award
Anna Wintour is widely known for being the hard-nosed editor-in-chief of Vogue, as well as a powerful and enigmatic force within the fashion industry, but what some people may not know is that in addition to her numerous occupational responsibilities, Wintour is also known for her strong ties to non fashion-related causes. Yesterday, WWDreported that Wintour is rallying fashion heavyweights to endorse President Obama's re-election (consider the second term won), but more importantly the Human Rights Campaign announced that they have chosen her as the recipient of the Ally for Equality Award, presented by writer/director/Glee-mastermind Ryan Murphy. Says HRC President Joe Solmonese: "We recognize Anna Wintour for her grace, dignity, style, philanthropy, and generosity. We are proud to honor her with the Ally for Equality Award for her commitment to the LGBT community through her work with marriage equality, HIV/AIDS activism, and the 'It Gets Better' campaign." Earlier this year, Wintour filmed a video endorsing marriage equality in the state of New York, and shortly thereafter the state legalized same-sex nuptials. Coincidence? We think not. Pretty dresses is only the beginning of Wintour's powerful domain (a territory which also includes the hearts of gay men far and wide).
