This is the first time a trans model has graced Spiegel's cover in the fashion publication's history.

For the first time in the fashion publication's history, Spiegel has featured a transgender model, Arisce Wanzer, on their glossy cover.

Wanzer, who is represented by Slay Model Management, appears on Spiegel's Resort 2017 cover. She also stars in Whoopi Goldberg's new trans modelling competition show, Strut.

Photographer Erica Barker, who shot the cover, took to Twitter to express her delight at participating in this historic fashion and gender moment:

A Spiegel publicist outlined the brand's history for Towleroad:

"Spiegel mailed its first mail order catalog to women across America in 1905, and just 20 years later, the fashion and furniture retailer had 10 million customers. As their desire grew for the latest fashions, Spiegel sent buyers to Paris fashion shows--the first catalog to bring European trends to American homes. By the late 1970s, millions of women began their steps in the corporate ladder which led to Spiegel adapting to their product needs."

Congrats, Arisce!
