Luxury watchmaker Harry Winston has teamed up with amFar to release a limited-edition timepiece that will benefit HIV/AIDS research.
Of course, this is Harry Winston, and 18-karat gold watches aren't cheap! The men's watch (pictured) retails for $21,200, but before you roll your eyes, you should know that 20% of proceeds will go to amfAR, in an effort to develop a scientific basis of a HIV cure by 2020.
So if you have a couple thousands just sitting by you, or know someone generous who does, move fast! Only 20 watches will be made in each style. There's also a women's model, priced at $16,200.
The luxury watchmaker put some serious thought into the design and aesthetic of the watches. "Each features some interpretation of a countdown motif," Harry Winston explained in a release. "The 42mm, 18-karat white gold men's version depicts a gradient multicolor outer second track on the navy blue dial. The women's model goes a little more upscale, utilizing diamonds and gemstones such as rubies, sapphires and garnets, to mark the countdown motif... In total, the women's 32mm gold watch is set with 12 brilliant-cut diamonds and 19 gemstones."
If you miss out on them (or need to save up your coins), don't worry: Harry Winston and amfAR have announced their partnership will run for three years.
