The Blonds fell down the rabbit hole Wednesday night, putting on a fantastical runway show filled with Grimes, pink dreadlocks, and tricked out corsets.
"Imagine if Alice in Wonderland was directed by Tarantino or Gregg Araki," David Blond, one-half of the The Blonds design duo, said backstage. "These stories that always have the great hero, always look incredible, and always say the exact line you want to say to your foe. That's our girl this season: a renegade."
Designing outfits for Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and Britney Spears (to name just a few of their diva clientele), Philippe and David Blond's collection is music video-ready. There were frilled, glittered dresses perfect for a "Pretty in Pink" prom, oversized 90s-esque sequined puffer jackets, and lots and lots of pink.
The clothes are definitely not meant to be on worn on a slump day. "A night out, music videos, on-stage, on the red carpet, movies..." are ideal situations to bust out this collection, according to Phillipe. And with two handfuls of one-name pop stars under their belt, is there anyone left the duo still hopes to dress?
"Janet Jackson," he answers, without hesitation.
