Met Museum Extends Manus x Machina Through September
One more chance to see the Costume Institute's latest show
Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology, the Metropolitan Museum's hit exhibit exploring the intersection of hand-crafted clothing and industrial design, has been extended from itsinitial August 14 closing date to September 4 to accommodate more visitors.
The Met's director and CEO, Thomas P. Campbell, explains: "With the transformation of the Robert Lehman Wing into a breathtaking cathedral to couture, we want to give as many people as possible the chance to experience this exhibition."
"The show invites visitors to explore the artistry of over 170 haute couture and ready-to-wear ensembles," he adds. "It is a wonderful way to discover the magic behind the making of fashion."
Manus x Machina has already drawn over 350,000 visitors in its first nine weeks open. Celebrities at the Met Gala this year honored the exhibit by dressing in their most tech-chic looks.
The exhibit explores the contrasts between handiwork versus machine work in haute couture and ready-to-wear, exploiring how industrialization is quickly reshaping the way the fashion world works. Make sure you take a look before the fall.
