Demna Gvasalia's spring 2017 collection for Balenciaga is a spandex spectacle, and its new campaign pairs everyone's favorite stretch fabric with wool blazers and long, shiny black coats--the perfect combo.
The photography's shot by fashion photographer Harley Weir and styled by Lotta Volkova, who're both longtime collaborators of Gvasalia's.
"The series re-echoes the fetishistic wit, which played through the collection," the brand said. "Inspired by the tactile, stretch-to-fit properties of Spandex, enhanced pop-florals and the house codes, such as rainwear, [Weir's] photography places the Balenciaga woman in an imaginary space, a place of avant-garde pleasures."
Balenciaga's campaign features models Sunniva Vaatevik, Alek Wek, Amandine Renard, Shujing Zhou and Litay Marcus, as well as Lebanese actress Carla Daher and NYC-based artist Eliza Douglas. Gvasalia continues to eschew using a celebrity ambassador for his campaigns, saying "the new Balenciaga women, the women who wear the clothes, are my celebrities."
