Backstage at Robert Geller Fall '17
Robert Geller's fall '17 collection, "Love and War," felt especially relevant this season, pulling inspiration from protests and militarization.
Shoulder guards and face masks emulated protective gear one might wear in a resistance during political unrest; fur-collared aviator jackets and Ushanka-style hats reference Soviet era militarization; more literal references were seen in camouflage details throughout.
The contrast, "Love," came in softer shades of pink and purple. One red hoodie further illustrated the collection's theme in a literal way, with "Love" written on the front and "War" on the back--a meaningful culmination for Robert Geller's 10th anniversary.
"I am incredibly lucky to create for a living," Geller said. "To turn ideas into something that has a life. Something that accompanies my fellow humans for many years of their lives... I always wanted to create clothes that mean something. That can connect with people and mean something to them. Give them confidence. Feel comfort. Make a positive impact on their lives. What could be greater than that?"
