Remembering four years of independent capsule collections.
"We created a video to show how timeless our garments are," says Edwin Bolta, co-founder and creative director of New York-based brand NEWTHINGS. He's released a visual today that reflects back on four years of independent capsule collections, starring some of the same faces he's featured in campaigns and fashion presentations along the way.
Focusing on key pieces dropped between 2013 and 2017, Bolta hopes to showcase NEWTHINGS' core street-inspired aesthetic: "We aim to create a future heritage brand," he says. "We are constantly attempting to create better, more streamlined versions of core silhouettes. The only time we create a new silhouette is if it's needed."
Through zippers, buttons and careful craftsmanship, Bolta's focus throughout NEWTHINGS' life has been on achieving minimalism and honoring the brand's roots. "Think of us as the AIRMAX brand of clothing," he says. "You know it's an AIRMAX no matter what."
Bolta's models in the archival video styled themselves, and "picked their own looks without them knowing what season or year the piece was made," he says. Among the familiar faces is queer DJ NAR, who released in 2016 his breakout Jujeh EP off Doom Dab records. "We always fuck with NAR, Bolta says. "He's part of NEWTHINGS--it's a given."
