Pregnant Male Models on the Runway? It Happened

Designer Xander Zhou is making a splash with his spring 2019 fashion collection. He outfitted his male models to appear pregnant - in some cases, showing off the bare belly. One of his models donned the look with a white t-shirt lifted above the stomach to expose bare "skin." The shirt reads "New World Baby" in capital letters.

"It's my vision of the future," Xander Zhou told Women's Wear Daily about the line. "I wasn't designing based on fashion elements, that's not the right world for me. Instead I tried to create the collection as a movie, a story of my own and build each model as a character."

The narrative Zhou sought to tell was one of equality and a genderless society, according to WWD. Perhaps this is what Zhou imagines for the future, but pregnant men are in the past and present, too.
