It’s going to be a good decade.

New decade, new ventures. After being named Sports Illustrated's Sportsperson of the Year and FIFA's Best Women's Player in the World for 2019, Megan Rapinoe is turning her eyes to fashion. Though she's already worked with NIke in the athletic space, the soccer star has now been revealed as a face of the high-fashion, luxury brand Loewe.

"Any chance I get to do something outside of sport, particularly in fashion, I'm all over that," Rapinoe told CNN Styleabout the gig. "Particularly in the context of women's sports, where I feel we're very boxed in."

The athlete has made a name for herself as outspoken on a variety of issues, but she's also known to turn a look. Her, now trademark, purple hair is the highlight of the new Loewe ad, and she'st gotten a couple of fits off on various red carpets throughout the last year.

"For me, [fashion] is my way of getting to do and look and express myself exactly the way that I want to," she said, referencing the fact that on the field, she's shown mostly in the way the league and sponsors want her seen. The Loewe ad is a departure from that.

"I watched Megan on the news one morning and what she was saying resonated with me," Jonathan Anderson, the creative director of Loewe, said. "I think she is an incredible role model."

For the athlete, the job is more than just some photos and a check.

"As we start to progress, and our sport becomes more popular and we start to become more successful, you have fashion designers wanting athletes who have become [culturally] significant," she said. "I think that fashion is a really good indication and case study for the progression of women's sports."
