This Designer Recreated an Iconic Billy Porter Look for a Queer Teen’s Prom
Queer designer Qaysean Williams just helped a teen's prom dreams come true.
This teen just slayed their prom thanks to help from designer Qaysean Williams!
A nonbinary teen went to their prom wearing a blue velvet recreation of Billy Porter’s iconic tuxedo gown from the 2019 Oscars after queer designer Qaysean Williams recreated the look for them.
Williams, a designer who appeared on Netflix’s Next in Fashion, is known for his spectacular creations and always knows how to pull off a fabulous look, so he was the perfect designer for this challenge.“I recreated the icon @theebillyporter look for a prom
Client! He looked amazing and he was so happy! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩”— Manikin (@Manikin) 1684764622
When the teen approached Williams with the idea, he was more than happy to help, and the results are magical.
“I recreated the icon @theebillyporter look for a prom client! He looked amazing and he was so happy!” Williams wrote on Twitter. (According to the teen’s Instagram, they use they/them pronouns.)
“It’s 10’s across the board for meeee” he added on Instagram. The post shows several angles of the gown, including a gorgeous slow-motion video where the teen is SERVING!
“Prom was the best, thanks to my friends and the dress designer,” the teen wrote on their own Instagram post showing even more videos and pics of the prom itself.
It’s a truly wonderful world where teens not only are free to express themselves in this way, but also have the kind of role models like Porter and Williams to make it so their dreams can come true!
