Interesting news alert, courtesy of WWD: Men are wearing pantyhose. Yes, the "upscale legwear specialist" brand Emilio Cavallini is chalking up 2 to 3 percent of annual sales to men buying stockings--and not just RuPaul and Sherry Vine. In fact, the new customer base has spurred the company to create pairs with both genders in mind. The unisex styles have more elasticity and breathability (because men sweat more...down there). But if it isn't drag queens and fashionably outre scenesters wearing the female-oriented garment, who is? Company vice president Francesco Cavallini has an idea: "I think the mantyhose are being worn for warmth under pants during cold weather months and also at home to lounge around in....the tights are comfortable," he says. And while the company's coed pieces are mostly monochromatic, they've upped the ante by introducing patterns like checkerboard, stars, or our personal favorite, skulls (very Comme des Garcons spring 2011, no?). But the question remains: would you wear pantyhose? And if so, how would you wear it?
