What: Kenzo x Vans Summer Sneaker
Where: Kenzo.com, OpeningCeremony.com
When: May, June, and July 2012
Why: When the duo behind the hit retailer Opening Ceremony, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim took over the house of Kenzo, hopes were high that they could breath new life into the brand that was running into difficulties in creating a desirable look based on the brand's original intention to create a place where East meets West, sartorial speaking. Right from the get-go, Leon and Lim were praised for injecting a youthful sense of joyousness and frivolity, with voluminous shapes and rigorous details. Instantly a hit with both retailers and editors, the brand is quickly shaking off its staid past. Now the duo is collaborating with skater fave Vans for small collection of summer footwear. In a press release the Lim and Humberto said: "Since our childhood in suburban Los Angeles, we've been fans of Vans and own too many pairs to count! Vans is one of the iconic American brands and we liked the idea of infusing this bit of American style into the house of Kenzo." They've implanted their joyous colors and netted design motifs onto The Era, Vans's ultimate skate shoe. Expect this collaboration to be the shoe for wannabe skaters-cum-fashionistas and those looking for an instant update to a beloved classic.
