Vogue's British sister publication hosted their first ever festival over the weekend, gathering together some of the most creative minds in the industry for a lineup of panel discussions, Q & As, and discussions all focused on what it's really like to work in fashion. A mob of notable designers, photograhers, stylists, and editors converged to dispense advice and weigh in on the relevant topics currently affecting the industry. Another subdivision represented was that of the high-profile faces (and bodies) that are used to display the season's best apparel and accessories on the runways, in magazines, and advertisements: the ever-elusive model. One such living mannequin was Natalia Vodianova, who has appeared on British Vogue's cover seven times. PerNew York Magazine, Vodianova was grilled on the pressures that thin models impose on readers of fashion rags. The 30-year-old Russian stunner, and mother of three, responded with some real zingers, including: ""Come on, guys, it's better to be skinny than to be fat," and the classic line, "I respect my body -- my body is my temple." She also went on to tell the audience how she once went to an event three days after giving birth in Givenchy couture. Oh, models, when will they learn that they're just glorified hangers, and should stay silent and retain some aura of mystery. Wasn't it Mark Twain who famously said, ""Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"? Better yet--didn't Kate Moss end this whole debate years ago when she said, "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels"?
