Glenn O'Brien: 'Andy would have been fascinated by Andrej'
Photos by Tony Kim for DuJour
We know many men (and women) who are fascinated by gender-bending male model Andrej Pejic--including Jean Paul Gaultier. We even showed him naked wrapped with a live python. But it's been too long since we have seen Andrej get the star treatment.
Now, he seems to be back. Not only is he on the cover of Serbian Elle (really? his first Elle cover would have to be in the tundra, no doubt), he's also in a gorgeous fashion feature for newish luxury mag DuJour. In it, he gets some amazing hair and makeup treatments to recreate Edie, Nico, Candy Darling, and Andy Warhol.
As Glenn O'Brien explains in the mag, "Andrej is as pretty as Candy, although I'm not sure who is the more feminine character. Being feminine was definitely harder for a boy in the old days." He also goes on to state: "Andy would have been fascinated by Andrej. He liked pretty boys, and he liked boys who could impersonate girls. Andy thought boys made the best actresses because they could be more objective about femininity, and they didn't have to worry so much about being politically correct in one's femininity."
But what would Andy think about Andrej doing his likeness. "I think the boss would have looked at Andrej," says O'Brien, "And said, 'Oh, gee, I wish I looked that good. '"
