Out fashion editor Brent Coover tells you what's hot right now in NY and LA
Clockwise, from left: Ormond Gigli, Haas Brothers for Versace, The Corner Barber, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Osteria La Buca.
Photo of the week: "Girls in the Windows" by Ormond Gigli
I love the grand production of this picture by Gigli. It's so old world photography! I think the colors are fantastic. And it's so camp, dramatic, fabulous!
Style inspiration of the week: Jean-Michel Basquiat
Basquiat always wore slightly oversized men's suiting. It looked slouchy and slightly disheveled. It wasn't tight and precious, like men's suiting recently. It was carefree and comfortable. This fall, I'm doing baggy dress pants with sneakers, and an oversized robe style coat that I bought at Dries Van Noten in Paris. It's very pajama, wanderer, chic.
Design collaboration of the week: Haas Brothers for Versace
These interior designers based in LA did ready-to-wear, accessories, and homeware for Versace. It's all a little over-the-top, dangerous, gilded, LA-meets-Milan. Very sexy! My favorite pieces are the leather harness bondage bench and the gilded panther statue.
Restaurant of the week: Bludso's Bar and Que
BBQ has become too big and too popular in NYC for awhile: The good places always have long waits... So this hot spot on N. La Brea in LA is a nice change of pace. It's big, clean, modern, and friendly. Meat is served by the pound. The sauces are unreal! There are lots of TVs playing the games. It's a great spot to catch Monday night football or to catch up with friends.
Haircut of the week: John at The Corner Barber in Williamsburg
John has been giving me some nice skin fades lately. And the compliments on my haircut have been pouring in. He's so sweet, funny, and although he's straight -- he's got a great sense of humor with the gays.
Massage of the Week: Sunset Foot Spa
Out's fashion director, Grant Woolhead, introduced me to this foot spa. It's $30 for an hour-long full body massage. And they have a punch card! After 10 massages, you get one free. It's not fancy, but it's not scary. It will totally become a weekly thing for me.
Cocktail of the week: "Hey Nadine" at Osteria La Buca on Melrose
The ingredients are reposado tequila, aperol, lemon, and agave. It's like a margarita, but a little bit more bitter. Absolutely delicious. And the waiter serving me drinks all night was this delicious '70s-looking Tom Selleck mustached man with a nice bum and tight pants.
