Need To Know: Berlin Designer Julian Zigerli
Meet the German designer backed by Alan Cumming and Giorgio Armani
Fashion is all about new, now and next, and one of the names that seems to be hitting on all of those points now is Julian Zigerli.
A 2011 graduate of the Berlin University of Arts, Zigerli has been chosen as the next up-and-coming designer to show in the Armani Theater on January 11, during Milan Men's Fashion Week.
The Berlin-based designer, who was born and raised in Switzerland, will debut his Fall 2014 collection. His previous presentations focused on showing fantastical graphic prints.
"To be recognized and supported by one of the most influential and important persons in the fashion industry worldwide gives me the confidence and trust into me work and strengthens my believe that creativity is best when it comes from the heart," Zigerli told WWD.
The designer won the 2012 Swiss Design Award, and also partnered up with actor Alan Cumming for a beautiful short film to showcase his Fall 2013 collection:
Harping on emotions, memories and peaceful reflection, the film features model Thomas Gibbon and was shot by Martin Monk. "I like the way he thinks about fashion," Cumming explained to Daily Front Row on why he decided to work with Zigerli on the project. "His clothes are comfortable and out-there. A bit like myself."

Past designers who have shown in the Armani Theater include Stella Jean and Andrea Pompilio. Prior to this season, Zigerli traditionally showed in Berlin, and judging from his latest show invitation (link potentially NSFW), there should be plenty to look forward to in Milan.
