"I don't like my physique," Jamie Dornan reveals to Interview magazine. The actor, who first became famous as an underwear model, admits to having reservations about his own body even though it's what won him fans.
"I was a skinny guy growing up, and I still feel like that same skinny kid."
While he still may feel like that "skinny kid," he clearly has grown into his body. A body that will be on full display in the upcoming film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, schedule to hit theaters ahead of Valetine's Day.
The title role as Christian Grey will be his most prominent to date but the actor admits it was a difficult to get there.
"I'd been auditioning for parts for years," he says. "I never got any better at it. I'm crap at auditions. I know there are people who can walk into those rooms and make those lines sing on the page and get the job immediately. I wasn't one of them."
Even after scoring his first gig in Marie Antoinette, for which he also landed on the cover of Out, he struggled to find work.
"After I got my first acting job, thanks to Sofia, I still went a while without working. If you ever wonder why some actors end up taking shit jobs, it's because they have to pay the mortgage--or because they just want to work."
Lucky for fans, he's pushed through and made sense of his body and film career--making both of them work.
