We thought cinch bags were better left off in 1999, but we'd happily reconsider now that Proper Assembly has come up with a luxury version. The Brooklyn-based brand just launched this week, with a mission: For every bag sold, Proper Assembly will make a contribution covering the production costs of a tote bag used by entrepreneurs in developing countries. It doesn't hurt either that their budding line --which also includes backpacks and duffle bags -- is made using fine Italian linen and vegetable-tanned leather.
For their update on the cinch bag, designers Becky Shim Paguia and Nate Poekert added functionality, with a practical zip front pocket and an interior slip pocket, and smart leather shoulder pads on the drawstrings, for a more comfortable wear. We also love the color palette, with six shades ranging from radiant ochre, to understated sage, to trendy stripes, camo or checks.
