For our Scandinavian friends across the pond, Tom of Finland (a.k.a. Touko Laaksonen) is a national treasure -- he even has his own postage stamp. The master of homoerotic cartoons has left a prolific body of work (and we mean, bo-dy) which continues to inspire the realms of fine arts, fashion, and film (a biopic is in the works). Now, his kinky characters are infiltrating your home.
Finlayson, a 124-year-old textile company based in Helsinki, has been producing classic home goods that your grandma would be proud of, but after changing ownership earlier this year, they decided to spice things up.
The Finnish brand responsed enthusiastically to a proposal from the L.A.-based Tom of Finland Foundation to introduce a line of home goods that would go beyond T-shirts, coffee mugs, or refrigerator magnets. Now, you can sleep in Tom of Finland bed sheets, go shopping with a tote bag bearing sexy sailors, or wipe yourself dishes with soft cotton towels full of macho men.
"We're thrilled to offer Finlayson's high-quality home textiles, designed in Finland, to American customers," says Risto Voutilainen, chief operating officer of Finlayson. "The Tom of Finland x Finlayson Collection draws upon innovative and ground-breaking Finnish designs and art traditions while paying homage to Touko Laaksonen, one of the most celebrated and respected Finnish visual artists of all time."
The Tom of Finland x Finlayson collection launches in the U.S. on November 20 at ByFinlayson.com. We count on you to show those sheets the kind of action that would honor Laaksonen's legacy.
