Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci Are Starring in a Gay Love Story

If you have long yearned to see Nigel from The Devil Wears Prada and Mr. Darcy snog while wearing zip-up sweaters in the English countryside (and who hasn't?), then this is your prime, Miss Jean Brodie.

According to Variety, actors Stanley Tucci (Spotlight) and Colin Firth (A Single Man) recently wrapped shooting on Supernova -- which is sadly not an adaptation of the Liz Phair song. Directed by Harry Macqueen (Hinterland), the premise is like Still Alice mixed with Faces Places but with more tasteful sodomy. After Tucci's character is diagnosed with early onset dementia, the couple drives across England seeing friends and visiting places that remind them of their time together.

"As the trip progresses, however, their ideas for the future clash, secrets come out, and their love for each other is tested as never before," the entertainment magazinereported on Thursday. "Ultimately, they must confront the question of what it means to love one another in the face of Tusker's illness."

Gay sex jokes aside -- how we do have fun here -- this is going to be a straight-up tearjerker, like The Notebook except you call up every single person you've ever met after and apologize for everything you've ever done wrong.

Even the bloody press release screams sobbing alone in your bathtub with a pint of ice cream.

"Supernova is a deeply romantic, modern love story," Macqueen claimed. "It follows two people who are bound together by their love for each other but being pushed apart by the situation they find themselves in. It is an intimate, naked portrayal of a relationship facing a fissure that threatens to cut it to its very core."

There's actually lots of ugly-crying pedigree behind the camera. Production designer Sarah Finlay worked on the Charlotte Rampling December-December romance 45 Years, while producer Tristan Goligher made the boy-loves-his-horse indie drama Lean on Pete (a genre that is intrinsically sad-making). Meanwhile, editor Chris Wyatt made the gritty Brokeback Mountain redux God's Own Country.

In between making the disposable tissue industry very wealthy, viewers will be treated to solid acting from two of cinema's most dependably good actors. Tucci and Firth, both of whom just get hotter with age, have appeared in diverse films such as The King's Speech, The Hunger Games, Bridget Jones' Diary, Julie and Julia, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and Easy A over the course of their decades-long careers, as well as the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice starring Firth's wet shirt.

And while Burlesque was a bad movie (it's OK, we can all admit this now!), we do not talk nearly enough about the fact that Tucci was very, very sexy in it. We will have the opportunity to correctly appreciate this soon-to-be universal truth when Supernova debuts in theaters, although a date has not yet been announced.
