Bombshell finally hits theaters across American this Friday, and in anticipation of the film's release, we've got an exclusive sneak peek at the big screen dramadey, which follows the fallout of the Fox News sex scandal that toppled Roger Ailes' (John Lithgow) career.
The film takes a look inside the hilariously horrible world of Fox News as Gretchen Carlson (Nicole Kidman) and Megyn Kelly (Charlize Theron) fight to show the world that the conservative network is filled with toxic masculinity and sexual harassment. The audience is given an entrance to that world through Kayla (Margot Robbie), a composite of several real life Fox employees. In an exclusive clip from the film, Kayla is shown the ropes of working for Rush Limbaugh by Jess (Kate McKinnon), who explains what a "Fox story" is.
Kayla and Jess' friendship (and eventual hookup) is something Theron was happy to see in the film. "It was something that was written in the script when I got it and I thought it was really interesting," she told Pride Source. "And it is so interesting that people kind of go, like, 'Wait, I don't understand.' I was like, 'You can't understand that a conservative Jesus-loving girl could also love other women?' I'm like, isn't that so strange?"
Theron added that the film's production team "definitely wanted to make sure we handled it in a way that felt authentic...We don't set up a lot of explanation as to why they end up sleeping together or whether she's gay or not; these are all things that I think you have to work within the nuance of all of that instead of underlining everything."
Bombshellis in theaters nationwide December 20.
