Moments after winning her first Oscar for "Shallow" from A Star Is Born, Lady Gaga was sending a message of joy to queer people -- "to god and the gays" teas!
While speaking with the press backstage after her win, Gaga was asked by an Australian reporter if she had a message for her fans in Sydney, who are celebrating Pride this week.
"What I would love to say is one of the hardest things in life is to be brave enough to be yourself," Gaga shared. "I wish to everyone that is going to that celebration to feel a joy inside of them. That's actually what Bradley said to me yesterday right before we did our last rehearsal for this performance of 'Shallow.' He said, 'let's just drop a little bit of joy.' And I said 'okay.' It turns out, joy did a whole lot for me."
But Gaga didn't stop there, sharing her hope that one day mainstream awards shows will expand to better include people of all gender expressions. "I'll tell you something, I hope that everyone there in Sydney feels so much joy and celebrates all sexual identities. And I also have a dream in our future as we evolve as humanity that these award shows not be male and female but include everyone."
In her acceptance speech, the newly-minted Oscar winner had another message for anyone watching: "If you are at home and you're sitting on your couch and you're watching this right now, all I have to say is that this is hard work...... It's not about winning, but what it's about is not giving up.It's not about how many times you get rejected or fall down or you're beaten up. It's about how many times you stand up and you're brave and you keep going."
