Looks like Rocketman is going home with two Golden Globes! After Elton John and Bernie Taupin took home the trophy for Best Original Song with "I'm Gonna Love Me Again" -- the occasion marked the first time the two had ever won a trophy as a team, -- the film's lead, Taron Egerton was due for his own.

"I really wish I had written something," Egerton said after he got to the stage, handing out hugs, and shakes, and a kiss to the temple of Rami Malek along the way. The Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture award marks Egerton's first nomination and win at the Golden Globes.

"This role has changed my life," he said. "It's been the best experience of my life. I'm so proud of the film. Everyone standing up for Bernie and Elton earlier, it's such a joyous experience and we've loved every second.

"I've got a few thank yous," he continued. "First of all to my friend, Dexter Fletcher, for making a movie that I will be proud of for the rest of my life. I love you like a brother." Rocketman was up for the award against other projects like Jojo Rabbit, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Knives Out and Dolemite is My Name.

In his speech, Egerton also thanked David Furnish, John's long time partner "for allowing me to believe I was the man to play your husband." He also went on to thank John for the music, living an extraordinary life and "for being my friend."
