So the live-action version will have a Fairy Godparent?
There's really nothing that is going to compare with the 1997 remake of Cinderella that was produced by and starred one Whitney Houston. Nothing. Period. With a truly color-blind casting (one part Black queen in Whoopi Goldberg, one part white king in Victor Garber, resulting in the Filipino prince played by Paolo Montalban) and some truly unmatched vocal abilities, the television film is truly unmatched. But if anyone is going to help a new remake have even a chance of coming close, it's Billy Porter!
Having been officially announced as a part of the latest Sony remake last year, Porter is coming in hot as the new Fairy Godmother. Well, Fairy Godparent it seems.
"You know, it hit me when I was on set last week, how profound it is that I am playing the Fairy Godmother -- they call it the Fab G," Porter said in a recent CBSN interview. "Magic has no gender."
"We are presenting this character as genderless -- at least that's how I'm playing it," he continued. "And it's really powerful." And who better to give us this version than the Grammy, Tony, and Emmy Award winning Kinky Boots performer?!
"You know, this is a classic -- this is a classic fairy tale for a new generation.," he continued. "I think that the new generation is really ready. You know the kids are ready, it's the grownups that are slowing stuff down."
