Looks like Kristen Stewart has her next gig. The top billing actress is set to play Princess Diana in Spencer, a new drama about a pivotal moment in royal history: when Diana decided that she really didn't want to be in line to be queen.
The project is directed by Pablo Larrain and written by Steven Knight -- you may know Larrain's work from Jackie. Production won't begin until early 2021.
"The drama takes place over three days, in one of her final Christmas holidays in the House of Windsor in their Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England," Deadline wrote in its exclusive.
"Kristen is one of the great actors around today," Larrain told the outlet. "To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need. The combination of those elements made me think of her. The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it's very beautiful to see. I think she's going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time. She is this force of nature."
The film is not set to explore Diana's death.
In addition to projects like Charlie's Angels and Twilight, Stewart has previously starred in biopics like Seberg and JT Leroy.
