Kevin Spacey Books First Movie Role Since Sexual Assault Cases

Kevin Spacey Nabs First Movie Role Since Sex Scandal Allegations

He has been largely out of the public eye over the past few years.

Kevin Spacey has been cast in his first movie role since allegations of sexual assault and misconduct were leveled against the actor almost four years ago. According to a report from ABC News, the disgraced actor will appear in the low-budget, independent Italian movieL'uomo Che Disengo Dio or The Man Who Drew God. The film will be directed by Franco Nero and will feature his wife Vanessa Redgrave.

"I'm very happy Kevin agreed to participate in my film," Nero told ABC News. "I consider him a great actor and I can't wait to start the movie."

According to Filmitalia, the film tells the story of a blind artist who is able to create "true-to-life portraits just by listening to human voices" and who becomes a "TV-junk star." Spacey will make a brief cameo appearance as a police detective. Nero will play the main role of the artist.

This is the first film role for Spacey since a slew of accusation were leveled against the two-time Oscar winner. Actor Anthony Rapp alleged Spacey tried to molest him when he was only 14 years old while the pair were both appearing on Broadway at the time. Harry Dreyfuss, son of Richard Dreyfuss, also said Spacey repeatedly fondled and groped him at a 2016 party despite indicating the touching should stop. Dreyfuss was 18 at the time of the alleged groping. Charges were filed but later dropped in that case. Additional charges were filed against Spacey by an unnamed person, but the accuser died prior to trial and the case was dropped as a result. More than 20 allegations were also connected to Spacey while he was an artistic director at The Old Vic theater in London. Spacey used the accusations as an opportunity to come out, but many saw the revelation as an attempt to distract from the accusations.

Spacey was removed from his role in Netflix's House of Cards and elsewhere as a result of the mounting scandals. Two months before the scheduled premiere, he was famously replaced by Christopher Plummer in the role of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty in the movie All The Money in the World about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III. Plummer received an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actor for his performance.

Another lawsuit against Spacey hit a snag earlier this month. An accuser whose name was listed as "C.D." accused Spacey of multiple instances of sexual assault and battery when he was 14 years old. A federal judge ruled the case could only go forward if the accuser would make his identity public.

The Man Who Drew God also stars Robert Davi, and is set to start filming later this year.
