It looks like Barbara Gordon's trans BFF is coming to the movies!

Finally some trans representation in the DCEU!

It looks like Alysia Yeoh is coming to HBO. A new set picture from the upcoming Batgirl film shows trans actor Ivory Aquino standing next to Leslie Grace, who plays Batgirl, and it's got us all buzzing that one of our favorite trans characters from the comics could be coming to the DCEU!

We've started to see some pretty great looks at HBO's upcoming Batgirl movie, and in some new on-set pics, it looks like Barbara Gordon is hanging out with her trans BFF from the comics, Alysia Yeoh.

These new pics and video show Grace out of her Batgirl costume wearing a jacket and beret, hanging out with a character played by Ivory Aquino, a trans actress who appeared in Dustin Lance Black's docuseries When We Rise.

Now we don't know for sure, but it's a very safe guess that Aquino will be playing Alysia Yeoh, a trans woman who becomes Barbara's best friend in the comics. Some of the pics even seem straight out of an issue of the comics where Barbara and Alysia go shopping, as pointed out by one clever Twitter user.

Yeoh was created by Gail Simone and Ardian Syaf when Simone was writing the Batgirl comic back in 2011. She was originally Barbara Gordon's roommate, and soon became one of her best friends. Later, she married her girlfriend Jo Munoz, with Barbara as one of her bridesmaids.

Other recent looks at the upcoming HBO film have included Michael Keaton's Batman, along with a Robin, and clues that other characters like Hugo Strange and Klarion the Witch Boy might appear in the film. It's also set to star Brendan Frasure as the villain Firefly and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Jim Gordon.

The movie's star, Leslie Grace (In the Heights), also recently revealed what her costume will look like in the film, and she looks INCREDIBLE. The costume, based on the 2014 revamp from Babs Tarr and Cameron Stewart, features purple leather and a jacket design, rather than a skin-tight leotard. This is the Batgirl we've been waiting for!

Batgirl is written by Christina Hodson and directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. It's scheduled to premiere on HBO Max in 2022.
