The much-buzzed about Israeli gay film In Bed recently released its trailer, which depicts partying, love, and anguish all set against the backdrop of tragedy.
Similar to the recent (and canceled) Queer as Folk remake, Nitzan Gilady's film has an anti-LGBTQ+ shooting framing the action. In this case, it's a Pride parade targeted and Gilady explores the effects the attack has on its three hedonistic main characters, Guy, Dan, and Joy. The characters are portrayed by mainstream Israeli celebrities Israel Ogalbo, Dean Miroshnikov, and Moran Rosenblatt.
As made clear in the trailer, In Bed does not flinch away from depicting chem-sex, with various characters ingesting heavy drugs.
"Rather than stigmatizing, I wanted to show this side of our culture in a truthful way,." Gilady stated, according to Variety. "Not in the sense of being realistic or documentary-like, but portraying, in an honest and visceral way, the feeling of being high, reaching for fantasy, the distortion of reality, and loss of control."
Gilady previously directed Jerusalem Is Proud to Present, the acclaimed documentary about the 2006 World Pride event in Jerusalem.
In Bed was also received warmly by critics and filmgoers at two film festivals and will premiere in Israel on December 29. Details on an American release should be forthcoming soon. Watch the trailer below.
