Here's Where to Watch All the 2022 Oscar-Nominated LGBTQ+ Movies
Queer movies are taking over the Academy Awards.
This year was a great year for queer films at the Oscars. Not only did we see out actors like Kristen Stewart and Ariana DeBose pick up well-deserved acting nominations, but several other films with queer themes also got recognized with nominations as well.
But what if you haven't seen any of the LGBTQ+ nominees for this year's Oscars? Where can you watch all of them? Luckily for you, we've put together this handy guide of where to watch/stream each of this year's queer nominees!
Spencer
You can watch Best Actress nominee Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in Pablo Larrain's Spencer, now streaming on Hulu.
The Power of the Dog
The Power of the Dog is up for 12 Oscars this year, including Best Picture and Best Director. Benedict Cumberbatch and Kodi Smit-McPhee are both nominated for acting awards for playing two queer cowboys in 1925 Montana. You can stream The Power of the Dog on Netflix.
West Side Story
Steven Spielberg's remake of West Side Story was nominated for several Oscars this year, including Best Picture. It features a trans storyline for one of the characters, and also stars Best Supporting Actress nominee and out actress Ariana DeBose as Anita. West Side Story will begin streaming on Disney+ March 2.
tick, tick...BOOM!
Andrew Garfield scored a nomination for Best Actor for his performance as playwright Jonathan Larson in this movie musical. The film follows Larson, who later went on to write RENT, as he's about to turn 30. The film also features Alexandra Shipp, Vanessa Hudgens, and Robin de Jesus as Michael, Jonathan's gay best friend. Now streaming on Netflix.
Flee
This Danish animated docudrama made history when it became the first film to be nominated in the Best International Feature, Best Documentary, and Best Animated Feature categories. It follows a man on the verge of marrying his husband who recounts his journey fleeing from Afghanistan to Denmark as a refugee. Flee is streaming on Hulu.
Parallel Mothers
Pedro Almodovar's latest drama was nominated for two Oscars, Best Original Score, and Best Actress for Penelope Cruz. The film follows two single women both pregnant by accident who bond when they share a hospital room. You can rent Parallel Mothers on YouTube.
Mitchells vs. the Machines
This Best Animated Feature nominee follows the dysfunctional Mitchell family, including Katie, a queer aspiring filmmaker, and her out-of-touch father who doesn't understand her. As they go on a roadtrip to take Katie to college, they have to fight off a rogue AI that tries to take over the world. The Mitchells vs. the Machines is streaming on Netflix.
Audible
From executive producer Nyle DiMarco, Audible is a documentary short that follows a football player at the Maryland School for the Deaf as he navigates his senior year of high school. It's nominated for Best Documentary Short. Audible is streaming on Netflix.
