From Bridgerton to Oz!

The latest big news out of Hollywood is that out Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey is now in talks to join the already star-studded cast of Jon M. Chu's Wicked movies.

Bailey, who will reportedly play Fiyero, joins a cast that is led by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and pop singer Ariana Grande as Glinda.

Wicked is a prequel to the classic story The Wizard of Oz, telling the story of how Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda became the Good Witch. Chu announced back in April that the story will be split into two movies.

"Here's what happened: as we prepared this production over the last year, it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of Wicked into a single film without doing some real damage to it," Chu wrote in a statement on social media. "As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years. So we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie, but two!!!!"

He also announced at that time that the Wicked movies will come out on successive Christmas holidays in 2024 and 2025.

If you're unfamiliar with the story of Wicked, Fiyero is the prince of the Arjiki tribe who is studying as a student at Shiz University with the two witches. He later becomes Elphaba's love interest and helps her in her resistance movement against the Wizard of Oz.

Bailey, who is also returning to Bridgerton for season 3 of the show, also is working on a project for Showtime titled Fellow Travelers. In that series, he and Matt Bomer play two men falling in love under the shadow of McCarthy-era Washington, DC.
