The White Lotus star Theo James recently declared that he'd like to play George Michael in a biopic of the musician.
Given the hype behind James' performance on The White Lotus season two, a lot of LGBTQ+ fans were excited about the prospect of him playing Michael in a biopic of his life and career. However, certain LGBTQ+ performers weren't necessarily all-in on this idea.
Singer, American Idol star, and current Queen vocalist Adam Lambert reacted to this news with a comment on an Instagram post from Out's sister publication The Advocate:
"Yay another straight man playing a gay icon [eye-roll emoji]."

James revealed that he was interested in playing Michael in a movie about his life during a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live. A viewer posed the question, to which James replied:
"He's an icon. And he's a bit Greek and I'm a bit Greek, put that Greek together and you get falafel."
The Daily Mail has reported that James is indeed a "favorite" among the actors being considered to play Michael in a future biopic, so it seems like something is already in the works behind the scenes.
When it comes to recent biopics of queer singers, Freddie Mercury's Bohemian Rhapsody and Elton John's Rocketman both featured actors that are not out, LGBTQ+ performers... so we shall see how this George Michael biopic shapes up!
