The mothers are mothering!
Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) and Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) are starring in a new epic movie from A24, Mother Mary, about pop music. Charli XCX and Jack Antonoff have been tasked to write and produce original songs for the film.
Mother Mary will center Hathaway as a fictional musician and her relationship with a famous fashion designer played by Coel. The movie will be written and directed by David Lowery, best known for working on A Ghost Story, The Green Knight, and Pete’s Dragon.
XCX reacted to the film’s announcement with a tweet, “Jack ‘bout to get mothered.”
LGBTQ+ fans have been living for Hathaway in films like Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada, Ocean’s Eight, The Princess Diaries, Alice in Wonderland, and her stint as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.
In the meantime, Coel has quickly amassed a large fanbase not only for her critically-acclaimed series I May Destroy You but also for her work on Chewing Gum and recent entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the queer character of Aneka in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
We can’t wait to watch these two legends playing a sapphic Hollywood power couple on the big screen!
