Our Disney wishes are coming true!
The first trailer for the upcoming Disney animated film Wish, starring Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, and Alan Tudyk has been released, and we are already obsessed.
Wish takes place in Rosas, a “fantastical land located off the Iberian Peninsula,” and follows a teen girl named Asha as she tries to make her kingdom happy and bring them together.
“Imagine a place where wishes come true, where your heart's desire can become a reality, what if i told you that place is within reach? All you have to do is give your wish to me,” Pine’s King Magnifico says before ominously laughing.
“Our heroine, Asha, lives in Rosas, known as the kingdom of wishes,” co-director Chris Buck, who directed the film with Fawn Veerasunthorn, said. “People come from everywhere to give their wishes to a magical king who promises to grant their deepest desires—someday. Only he can decide which wishes will come true and when.”
DeBose plays Asha in the film, described as a 17-year-old “sharp-witted idealist” who “makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.”
The trailer also gives us the first hint of one of the songs from the movie, “This Wish,” written by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice for the film. It sounds absolutely great, and DeBose’s voice is ringing like a clear, beautiful bell.
Now this movie looks GORGEOUS, and DeBose is shining in the scenes we’ve heard so far. We truly can’t wait for Wish!
DeBose joins Moana star Auli’i Cravalho and Encanto star Stephanie Beatriz as queer Disney leading ladies, and all of them are women of color!
Wish comes out in theaters November 22.
