In Fly Me to the Moon, we've got Woody Harrelson playing a Nixon White House aide with a wild plan. He's sending New York City ad executive Kelly Jones, played by Scarlett Johansson, to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Her mission? To sell this moon landing and push America's space program to the epicenter of conversation. Channing Tatum plays Cole Davis, a NASA launch director who blames himself for a launch that took multiple astronauts. This team can't afford to lose this space race. So, the White House is pulling out all the stops to make sure Americans see a big win.
Out got the chance to sit down with the film's stars and chat about faking it till you make it, selling movies, and lip syncing for your LIFE. Kelly Jones is a marketing and PR wet dream; if you think of it, she can sell it. With that being said Johansson is a boss herself, so who would sell a movie faster, Johansson or Jones?
Johansson answered: "I feel like if I were selling a script to a studio, I think I would probably do it better." Tatum quickly jumped in saying, "Yes that's the answer. She goes, 'I wanna do this,' and they're like, 'yes, we're doing that.'"
We have seen Channing Tatum in so many films of many different genres but it's a rare occasion to see him enraged or angry within his characters. Cole Davis is far from what we would normally see from him. The character is rigid, committed to doing things the RIGHT way, and most definitely had something to prove. We asked Tatum how it felt to let loose playing Cole.
"I think we all have all sides to us and that's what I love about movies," he said. "We generalize them as comedies or love stories or action movies but a good movie has it all in it. And I think humans are exactly the same and I think you can have judgment on people. I'm not a comedian by any chance, but I think that they are some of the most complicated people in the world. So I don't know it's always there. Any time I get to flex a little bit out there, it's fun."
And we couldn't leave without asking these two major stars the real, hard-hitting questions... like what song would these two icons would lip sync for your life too? And no Tatum did not get to choose "Run the World (Girls)" by Beyoncé because, as you'll recall in one of pop culture's best moments of all time, he already got to do that with the Queen Bey herself!
Johansson responded, "Probably 'I Will Survive.'" Tatum added, "'Girls Just Want to Have Fun.'" Producers if you are out there, we need a new Lip Sync Battle with these two and QUICKLY!
