If you've been asking yourself, "What does Channing Tatum know about Paris Is Burning?" You can now answer that question!
In a new video from the Criterion Collection for its Criterion's Closet video series, Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum promote their new film Blink Twice while diving into the history of cinema and coming across the very popular 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning.
The couple dabbled through numerous films — which included The Vanishing, Moonstruck, and Thelma & Louise. And then, at one point in the video, the actors gush over Paris Is Burning. Tatum declares that the documentary's cinematography is "unmatched" compared to today's films, and then emphasizes it as a "place and time that would never be captured again."
Filmed with a budget of $500,000, Paris Is Burning was released in 1991 and became one of the most important films in queer cinema history. For those unfamiliar, the documentary outlines the history of and vernacular within ballroom culture in New York City. Over the years, the movie has received numerous accolades before being inducted into the National Film Registry in 2016.
