It’s nominations day at the Oscars!
On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Colman Domingo, Jodie Foster, and Lily Gladstone were nominated for the 96th Academy Awards for their achievements in acting.
First and foremost, Domingo received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for playing out, gay, civil rights activist Bayard Rustin in the Netflix biopic Rustin. This is Domingo’s first-ever Oscar nomination.
Foster’s performance as Bonnie Stoll in Netflix’s Nyad was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. This is Foster’s fifth time being nominated for an Oscar.
She was previously nominated (and won) for her roles in 1989’s The Accused and 1992’s The Silence of the Lambs. She also received nominations for 1977’s Taxi Driver and 1995’s Nell. Now, 29 years later, she’s being honored with a new acting nomination for her performance in Nyad.
Gladstone, who uses she/they pronouns, was nominated in the Academy Award for Best Actress category for their performance as Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon.
Congratulations are in order to these fantastic actors!
The 96th Academy Awards are scheduled to air on Sunday, March 10 on ABC.
