Deadpool & Wolverine just won't stop.
The latest Variety cover features an interview with Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy and movie stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The cover story also features some… interesting quotes.
In the interview, Feige talked about bringing a character who swears and has sex on screen to the much tamer Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
"There's a line in the red-band trailer — you don't have to write this in the article, for crying out loud — about pegging," Feige said. "I know what pegging is. It's in the first Deadpool movie. But there were people I work with who didn't know what it was. I had to explain it to them."
What a nightmare meeting that must have been!
If you haven't seen the first Deadpool (or you simply don't remember this blink-and-you-miss-it moment), Feige is referring to a scene where Wade Wilson (Deadpool) is willing to try being topped by his girlfriend Vanessa in celebration of International Women's Day.
As Vanessa penetrates him with a strap-on, the camera zooms in on Wade's face. He's wincing and complaining that he doesn't like it, which turns this potentially sexually-progressive scene into a joke about how anal sex is painful and not fun for men.
Later in the interview, Variety asked about Deadpool's comic book pansexuality and if there would be any sexual tension between Wolverine and Deadpool in the movie.
"I can't speak for Wolverine, but I feel like Deadpool has sexual tension with everything and everyone," Reynolds replied.
To be clear, pansexual people are not attracted to "everything and everyone," and it is a common myth and stereotype to joke that they are. Being attracted to all genders isn't the same thing as being attracted to everything that exists.
Deadpool & Wolverine premieres in theaters on July 26.
