AMC Theatres has announced a limited-edition popcorn bucket for Dune: Part Two. While the movie theater chain is known for having elaborate popcorn buckets for big releases, let’s just say that this one for the Dune sequel is grabbing a lot of attention for, uh, other reasons!
Based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, 2021’s Dune was a reboot of this saga from filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. The novel had previously been adapted by David Lynch in a 1984 film and by John Harrison in a 2000 limited series on Syfy, but Villeneuve’s approach was to tackle this story with a blockbuster budget and Star Wars-like fanfare. The hype for the movie reached even higher levels after Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya were cast in the lead roles, Paul Atreides and Chani, respectively.
But along with the hype for Dune: Part Two — which has already included an internet-breaking red-carpet premiere moment from Zendaya styled by Law Roach — there has also been a lot of chatter about the limited-edition Dune: Part Two popcorn bucket from AMC Theatres. Just looking at the thing, you can probably guess why people are making jokes about it. But if it’s still unclear to you, let’s just say that this is giving more Fleshlight than popcorn bucket.
Scroll through to see some of the funniest reactions to this limited edition popcorn bucket — and watch Dune: Part Two in theaters starting on Friday, Mar. 1.
For context, the Gom Jabbar test is used in the Dune universe to “determine whether an individual’s awareness was stronger than their instincts,” as explained in the Dune Wiki.
