Please, please, PLEASE make this movie gay!

What’s better than one Dylan O’Brien? Two Dylan O’Briens!

The Teen Wolf star has signed on to James Sweeney’s upcoming dark comedy Twinless, where he will play a pair of twins.

The film, written by, directed by, and starring Sweeney, is about two young men who meet in a twin bereavement support group where “an unlikely bromance develops between them.”

Sweeney, who is gay, was nominated for a Best First Screenplay nomination at the 2021 Independent Spirit Awards for Straight Up, a movie about a gay man who tries to date a woman and form a romantic, but non-sexual, relationship with her.

Because of Sweeney’s past work, it would make a lot of sense if Twinless has a gay angle to it, or at least a homoerotic one. While Straight Up was about a straight relationship, it was an exploration of a gay man’s sexuality and love life.

Does that mean that Twinless could also be an exploration of gay sex and relationships? Maybe Sweeney’s and O’Brien’s bromance will turn into something more? We can only hope.

“I was absolutely knocked out by James’ first film Straight Up and was determined to work with him,” producer David Permut of Permut Presentations said. “I immediately responded to the originality and provocative concept of Twinless. The dark comedy depicts complex characters in such an irreverent, emotional and hysterical way. The chemistry between Dylan, who portrays the role of identical twin brothers, opposite James’ character is absolutely combustible.”

O’Brien is also starring in the movie Ponyboi, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year. Ponyboi, written by and starring River Gallo, follows an intersex sex worker named Ponyboi who has to go on the run when he ends up with a suitcase full of mob money.

O’Brien, as well as the rest of the cast, which includes Murray Bartlett and Victoria Pedretti, are getting widespread praise for their performances in the movie.
